Yakiniku Yazawa is a high-end yakiniku (Japanese barbecue) restaurant that has been open in Beverly Hills since 2015. This is the brand’s first location in the US, with others in places around the world, including Singapore and Milan. Opening its stately black doors reveals a restaurant with a playful sensibility, where endearing cattle-themed art will catch your eye.

As for the food, the restaurant offers an à la carte menu as well as full-course omakase (chef’s choice) meals. There are three types of omakase offerings: a $100 meal, a $140 meal, and a $160 meal. Each of these includes three appetizers, beef tongue, harami skirt steak, the Yazawa-Yaki, and five cuts of beef. (The specifics may differ depending on what is in stock.)

The signature dish here is the Yazawa-yaki, thinly sliced top-grade sirloin dipped in a beaten egg sauce. The staff will grill the top-quality beef right there at your table, so that you can enjoy it at the absolute height of its deliciousness. The beef seems to melt the moment it enters your mouth, with its exquisite juices washing instantly over your taste buds. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call this an entirely new culinary genre, one separate from both yakiniku and sukiyaki.

Among the offerings from the three-appetizer platter, the Uni Wagyu Tartare with Truffle Oil is especially popular. Wagyu beef tartare is combined with truffle oil and topped with uni (sea urchin), truffles, and shredded nori seaweed. The aroma of the truffles and the flavor of the beef blend together in mellow fashion, with the uni adding the perfect accent.

The meat here is A5-grade Japanese Black Wagyu beef, selected by skilled buyers and shipped by air from Japan once a month. Chefs with exhaustive knowledge of meat cut each piece with care, as if creating works of art. This is one of the few restaurants where you can experience authentic, top-quality wagyu beef in the US.
