The name of the restaurant, Djapa, means “from Japan” in Brazil’s official language of Portuguese. There are many Japanese immigrants in Brazil and the concept is "magic on a plate," created when the delicious aspects of Brazilian and Japanese cuisines are mixed. Every menu item receives the attention of executive chef Angel Romero.

The signature dish of robata-grilled wagyu beef is bought from five places: Kagoshima, Ohmi, Hokkaido, Miyazaki, and Kobe. The popular menu item of hot-rock coconut dashi is a miso-based soup with dashi broth combined with coconut. Suntanned crabs is a dish that has Japanese freshwater crabs placed on top of Brazilian “farofa,” presented to look like crabs relaxing on a beach.

And it’s not just the food that’s plenty of fun. The colorful interior of the restaurant is a collaborative artwork between Brazil and Japan. The walls were painted by famous Brazilian street artist Bicicleta, and the other pieces were done by Japanese artists Takashi Murakami and Hajime Sorayama. The restaurant's interior is also decorated with a pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama. The whiskey bar has 400 kinds of Japanese whiskey as well as whiskey-based cocktails. You can also request a “sakepirinha,” a Japanese sake-based version of the traditional Brazilian cocktail “caipirinha.” It is an interesting restaurant that combines the food and artistic culture of Japan and Brazil.
