Owner and chef Michael Miho is a fourth generation Japanese-American raised in Hawaii. After working at locations including the Westin Hotel, he decided to go into business for himself and chose Portland, where Japanese pubs were nonexistent, to open Miho Izakaya. With the knowledge and techniques passed down from his great grandfather and grandmother, both talented chefs, he delivers authentic Japanese flavor in his own professional presentations. Menu items change with the seasons; one popular favorite, the Ahi Tuna Poke, is made with Hawaiian tuna, Japanese seaweed and cucumber. There is also a full lineup of original dishes featuring the use of Japanese ingredients, from Mochiko Fried Chicken to Miso Butter Asparagus. The Pickled Garlic and other pickled dishes, as well as chili oil, pepper and other seasonings, are made using traditional methods.
